My goal was to curate a shoot that showcased the brilliant resilience that has been exemplified by my peers as they persevered through their own hardships. I noticed that no matter how much those who are close to me may go through, they always manage to do it with their head high and a positive attitude; life never keeps them down. I used this shoot as a representation of the fact that even in the face of adversity, still we shine through our darkest moments.
“Every shot I produced was taken with the intention of illustrating happiness—pure, resilient, carefree happiness. There’s power in positivity and I wanted to make sure I showed that.”
While I didn’t draw the similarities in the early stages of the shoot, later on I realized that theme overall theme matched that of a poem by Maya Angelou titled Still I Rise, which is about uplifting ones self regardless of hardships and scrutiny.
“ Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.”
